Tom Paxton
Tom Paxton is an
American Treasure. With a career spanning nearly 5 decades, he has
written and performed songs we all know and have sung. From "The
Last Thing On My Mind" to "Marvelous Toy," "Bottle of Wine" to "Ramblin'
Boy," Tom's songs and influence on song writers who came after him
has been felt in every corner of America and, indeed, in many other
countries.
From his early days
at the Gaslight in NYC with contemporaries , Bob Dylan, Peter Paul
and Mary, The Chad Mitchell Trio and Judy Collins, Paxton's songs
have been a part of the musical landscape and heritage of our
culture.
His hundreds of
songs have touched on the social and humorous. The political and
satyrical. The gentle and reflective. He has covered it all, along
the way picking up several Grammy nominations.
His songs have been
covered by the likes of Judy Collins, John Denver, Harry Belafonte,
Joan Baez and Jose Feliciano, to name just a few.
Tom was an early
mentor to and influence on John Bassette during the early part of
John's songwriting career. When asked to contribute a track to this
CD, he graciously and without hesitation agreed.
Tom couldn't have
chosen a better song in the collection than "I Would Rather Be Here
With You." His voice over Cathy Fink's 12 string guitar, accompanied
by Marcy Marxer's pennywhistle was all that was needed to deliver
this one. Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer, multiple GRAMMY winners,
producers and musicians, also produced this track.

Tom continues to
write and record, both on Appleseed records and on his own
Pax record label. His latest offerings are Best of Friends
on Appleseed and Live In The UK on Pax, recorded at about the
same time as his John Bassette contribution.
