Marti Jones & Don
Dixon
Marti Jones was
already well known along the north coast before making her first
national mark as the frontwoman of the group Color Me Gone. Her solo
debut on A & M records, "Unsophisticated Time," which was produced
by future husband Don Dixon, put Jones on the musical map. Critical
acclaim, followed with the release of 1986's "Match Game," recorded
with guests Mitch Easter and T-Bone Burnett and "Used Guitars,"
recorded in 1988 with contributions from Marshall Crenshaw and Janis
Ian. Continuing her work with Dixon, Marti released 1990's "Any Kind
of Lie" to critical acclaim and added more RCA releases throughout
the decade. With the release of 2002's "my Tidy Doily Dream," Marti
Jones reasserted her dominance as both songwriter and performer.
Don Dixon has made his mark as a producer with R.E.M., The
Smithereens, Marshall Crenshaw, and wife, Marti Jones. But his
talents don't stop there. Dixon has a vault full of his own releases
to his credit, including "Most Of The Girls Like To Dance But Only
Some Of The Boys Like To," "Romeo At Julliard," "EEE" and his
compilation/collections, "(If) I'm a Ham, Well You're a Sausage" and
"Note Pat #38."
Dixon's songs have been covered by Joe Cocker, Ronnie Spector,
Hootie and the Blowfish and the Counting Crows, to name a few.
Jones/Dixon chose the John Bassette song "I'm Hangin' My Laundry"
for their contribution to the project. They trade off verses and
sing tight, powerful harmonies to boot. The track was produced by
Dixon.
Don Dixon's new CD
was released on June 13, titled "The Entire Combustible World In One
Small Room."
