Chuck Keith
Chuck Keith was born
and raised in sunny, Akron, Ohio.
"I've pretty much always been a song
writer, which is why John Bassette resonated with me."
At around age
thirteen, Keith picked up a guitar. He began to make his name in and
around the Northeast Ohio coffee houses and campuses during the
early 70's. He eventually formed his band the Hi Fi's, a well known
part of "The Akron Sound" during the latter part of that decade.
They were known for their alternative and often reggae treatments of
Keith's well-crafted songs. Keith says this about that... "In
the last forty years I've managed to learn what devoted guitarists
learn in about nine months. Fortunately I have many talented friends
who are willing to help prop me up. I've been a puppet, a pauper, a
poet etc. . ."
Keith's dubby
version of "Brothers and Sisters on the Land," John's 1977 song
about Kent State's Tent City, was produced by Jim Ballard.
These days Keith is
a Baptist deacon, works at a Weaver Workshop, and plays in a band
called 'The Paper Crowns'. He still writes and records his music.
